Engineering

Science is the method of logical understanding of knowledge and nature.  It is the method by which we dissect and digest the various occurrences in nature, and try to accept or reject the reasons behind them.  The application of scientific knowledge, or, "applied science," is what engineering is.  Through applied science, i.e., engineering, we translate scientific knowledge to products and processes helpful to life.

Engineering consists of conceptualizing a useful product, process, or structure, and developing designs for them. The concepts are then translated into working documents such as drawings and process diagrams.  These documents specify and define the materials and methods requisite in producing the products and structures. Specifications for material properties are developed, and appropriate materials selected. Manufacturing and processing methods are selected and directions are laid out for carrying them out.  Furthermore, it also consists of predicting, testing, and verifying the behavior of the products so designed and determining their performance, reliability, and endurance.  The end product of engineering is a set of products and processes which we can rely on for safe and reliable performance of tasks necessary in our life.  In the modern era, engineering has expanded to cover every aspect of life as we see from the various branches such as civil, mechanical, electrical, chemical, and many many more.

In conclusion, engineering may be understood as that discipline which allows us to define, delineate, and resolve problems in our life.  It is the process of conceiving useful ideas and transforming them into products and processes which make our lives better.  Engineering continuously evolves into developing new concepts and products which enriches our lives.
