Grinding is a necessary skill to have for many many different professions. Everything from diamond making, to eyewear production requires some form of grinding in the process. As with many dangerous jobs, the most important thing to remember while grinding is to stay safe.
The most obvious and often most overlooked form of safety when it comes to grinding is eye protection. Our eyes are one of the most important organs in our bodies, and it is impeccably important to keep them safe while grinding. Grinding metal is perhaps the most dangerous to the eyes. The shards of metal that fly through the air while grinding are for whatever reason, often corkscrew shaped. If one of these pieces of metal happens to land in the eyeball of the person grinding, blinking and rubbing will only cause the infraction to embed itself deeper and deeper in to eye, causing massive discomfort and in some cases blindness. It is simple to avoid this. Simply put a pair of safety goggles on before grinding begins. It is suggested that goggles that cover the entire eye from every angle be worn at all times while grinding. Another danger from grinding metal is sparks. While sparks do not necessarily pose a threat in the form of initial injury, they do start fires very easily. Before grinding, make sure that all flammable materials are out of the way.
These are the main dangers when it come to grinding, but not the only ones. Follow these two simple steps, and your grinding should be a lot more successful.
