A prototype is the original model of a future product. Archetype means original or the first of it's kind with new adaptations to improve a product. When a model of a future product is made it can be tested for problems. There can be problems with the design or the improvements to the product. This product could be a new product or it can be adaptation of an old product. The new prototype can be good or it can be a failure.
There are four types of prototypes. The first type is proof of principle tests the new part of a design. The second type is the form study this is where the information on the basic size and feel of a the product. The visual prototype is the third type of a prototype it simulates the color and surface texture of a product. The fourth is a functional prototype that simulates the final design.
When creating and building the prototype it can be very expensive. To be sure that other inventors can not steel your idea you should patent the new form or product. After you apply for a patent on your product you will not have to be concerned with someone stealing your idea because you have legally registered your ideas. This is when you will be able to share your idea with others. You have to share your ideas with the people who do the funding and find a company who will build the product and make it available to consumers. You do need to protect your idea or someone else might develop it ahead of you.
Prototyping is the beginning of a new product after the drawing stage.
