Research and Development

Gathering knowledge and coming up with better designs and processes for different items can be challenging, but with research and development it can be acquired and used to make the item better and more efficient. With the world changing at a fast pace, it is required to keep our items upgraded to keep up with the other changing items around the world. With research and development, price costs and labor time spent on some items or processes can be eased or cut down by finding other methods or cheaper products to use.

Research and development or sometimes referred to as R&D has a definition which states "creating or finding of new ways to better an existing product or process." The term is usually used in technological circles, but when concerning a process it can be used in any field. Most businesses try to dedicate a department in charge of researching and developing existing products or processes or to come up with new and better products which can increase the profit margin of that business. Their are two types of research and development, basic and applied. Basic research and development is not necessarily geared toward increasing profitability of a certain item or process, where applied research and development is geared toward increasing profitability of an item or a process.

With the world changing everyday and items and processes becoming more and more expensive, research and development is needed to make our everyday lives easier and products more affordable. It also provides a basis for businesses to remain profitable and remain competitive with other businesses in our growing economy.
