The most sophisticated grinding, machining, and industrial tools are utilized by the world's largest companies, including General Electric, Boeing, and United Technologies, to name a few. The various types of machining tools used for industrial production are most commonly referred to as grinding machines or grinders. Belt grinders, bench grinders, cylindrical grinders, surface grinders, tool and cutter grinders, and jig grinders are the tools used to cut or smooth out various metals, ceramics, and complex applications. Machining tools and industrial tools have been a growing part of the economy in the post 9-11 era. Grinding tools have experienced a bull market with the recent surge in commodity and metals spot prices.
There are other forms of tools that have had the same phenomena happen to their respective industries. Farming and farming tool companies such as John Deere, Caterpillar, and Arts Way Manufacturing have seen sales of its farming equipment and tools skyrocket with Bush's policies and legislation favoring the use of foods such as corn for the production of alternate energies like ethanol. It has been mandated by the federal government to cut gasoline additives such as MBTE and replace it with the corn derived ethanol. This has created adverse effects on the environment, as well as a food shortage and commodity spike. The government is looking for ways to implement cellulosic ethanol and other forms of energy that will create a demand for other types of tools and instruments.
Other tools that deserve an honorable mention are those used in the construction trade. Mitre saws are needed to cut crown and base-board moldings. Compressors are needed to operate nail guns for installing framework. Rotating saws with different style blades are used to cut wood, tile, metals, marble, pipes, and corner beads.
